2025 | THE COUNT OF LUXEMBOURG
An operetta by Franz Léhar
Paris during the 1889 World’s Fair: Prince Basil Basilovich wishes to marry the young singer Angèle Didier. To secure her a name befitting her station beforehand, he offers the impoverished Count of Luxembourg half a million francs if he will marry Angèle in name only and divorce her after three months. However, the Count is not allowed to know his bride. René must go into hiding in Paris incognito for the three months until the divorce. But René and Didier meet at her farewell performance and fall head over heels in love. Naturally, they have no idea that, under rather adventurous circumstances, they are already married to one another. The situation comes to a head when Prince Basil, Angèle’s jealous patron, reveals the secret marriage and tries to drive them apart. Meanwhile, an extravagant princess with long-standing claims on the prince causes further turmoil. After many twists and turns, the path finally leads to a happy ending – true love triumphs, and René and Angèle find their way to one another.
