The opera "Der Blitz" is an amusing romantic comedy. Cousin George, arriving freshly to the countryside, informs sisters Henriette and Darbel that their uncle has died and has left his fortune to all three of them, on condition that George marries one of the sisters within the next three weeks. George concocts a secret plan, in which the stranger and new arrival Lionel pretends to have been blinded by lightning, to ensure that both sisters end up with a husband. After different trials and tribulations, two couples find each other and celebrate a double wedding.
