Carnival is celebrated in Venice. The Duke of Urbino, a notorious womanizer, has announced his presence at the masked ball. The lagoon city is in turmoil and all kinds of confusion and entanglements take their course, as the women fall for the Duke and the men try everything they can to keep their wives away from the aristocratic lecher. As befits an operetta, the chaos increases until, in the end, the masks fall and the right couples find each other - or maybe not?
