Cécile, Henriette and Albert Bitzius meet at the ‘Och-sen’ inn in Lützelflüh, where their father, Jeremias Gotthelf, used to stop off regularly. They have a lot to discuss: their mother has recently passed away, and their father was a pastor, a writer and a famous figure.

At this family gathering, the matter of settling the estate quickly takes a back seat. Instead, the three very different Bitzius/Gotthelf descendants prefer to discuss their current circumstances. Long-forgotten memories resurface; real-life events intermingle with scenes and stories from Gotthelf’s short stories and novels, whilst unfulfilled life plans and lingering wishes come to light. This family reunion is ultimately rounded off and emotionally enriched by what has always united the Bitzius children: singing and making music.
